We love jute not just because of our lovely rugs and bags, and not just because it is a fantastic material to work with but because it really is the most wonderful eco material.  We take great care to consider the environment when we are designing and introducing new collections.

Jute has minimal impact on the environment because it is a vegetable fibre that is rain fed and has little need for pesticides or fertilizer. It is bio degradable and sustainable.

The Jute used in Nkuku’s products is grown in India. Our rugs and bags are hand woven in Rajasthan, using traditional handlooms. We work with a group of talented weavers with a strong weaving heritage. Age-old techniques and methods have been passed from father to son and now increasingly to daughters too.

Jute is a versatile product to work with – it is often dubbed the golden fibre for its natural beauty and eco properties.
