A DIARY FROM PARIS

Sales Manager, Denise shares her experiences from Paris: Maison & Objet is like no other show. The size and scale is overwhelming, the constructions enormous and the creativity inspiring. It’s Nkuku’ s fourth Paris show and for the set up team and the sales team this time we feel we got the organization sussed- finally! In our season of trade shows, this is the one that requires the most stamina and planning. It’s a long show, five days in total and 9.30 till 7.00 pm every day but it’s worth it!

Our set up team, led by Angus arrived first, five days before start day with Ali, Jess and Katie – “the creatives”. This was the biggest stand we have ever done and when I arrived four days later, one look at their tired faces told me it had been a hard build.  The stand looked incredilbe and the reclaimed Indian doorways made a spectacular entrance!

What really works for us is that we hire an apartment in the centre of Paris and we all stay together. It isn’t luxurious but it’s practical and fun!! We found a great location this year only minutes away from the Gare du Nord. A very important fact as The Parc d’ Exposition is a 30 min train journey every day. Imagine travelling from central London to Watford every day, and you have got the picture. It’s worth it to experience a little piece of Paris!

It’s nice to spend a bit time exploring the streets and not just get caught up in the trade show madness. Our apartment has the perfect little kitchenette , ideal for cooking up a few delights.  The pre-show dinner on the first evening was cooked by the Sales Team, the least we could do- a very non Gallic Sausage and mash followed by an early night…. but not a peaceful one.  Our proximity to the train station meant that putting your head on a pillow gave perfect acoustic access to the trains below- soothing, not!

Maison is a truly an international show. We already have a French speaker on the sales team Jess Bow, who was joined by the lovely sisters Mischa and Clara. In addition, our new sales director James speaks Spanish, so we were all set to welcome our visitors.

The stand looked stunning, it really did and we had a fantastic show in all respects.  It’s a great bonding experience living and working as a team for a week. We got to visit some of our favourite haunts from previous shows and found some new ones. Luigi was a favourite!!

Followed closely by the Zebra, this fantastic restaurant has a  wonderful vibe and is always packed out. It makes the perfect end to a busy day of selling!

But breakfast had to be a highlight; no Paris apartment is complete without a “Hello Kitty” toaster!

Roll on September, j’aime beaucoup Paris!!
